alpaca cowl
The last cold weather knitting project for this spring is finished (if you don’t count socks, but I wear those all year round anyway): a cowl of the softest alpaca yarn in a deep golden brown.
I mentioned it in this post already, the yarn came from a family farm in Canada where I worked for 2 weeks in 2009. It took me this long to use up the lovely yarn from the alpacas I fed every morning.
I love how versatile cowls are and this colour especially can be worn with just about everything. For those interested in all things clothes: the boots are Lepi (a high quality italian brand my dad has been selling for decades), the shirt is from my dressmaking ventures last year (I never blogged it but it’s similar to this one) and the cardigan and jeans are both H&M (my go-to for basics, though I try to work towards buying less and instead more high quality and natural fibers).
I like to wear it loosely but it’s also wonderfully warm to wear bunched up around the neck…perfect for spring I’d say!

Thanks Lynda! This would be a great project to get into knitting again, it’s really soo easy. You don’t need a pattern at all (just make a long scarf k2 p2 and join at the ends when it’s long enough). Great for knitting on the side while watching a movie. Do pick up the needles again :)

Thanks Ana, it is very warm :) The shirt pattern I made myself with the help of Cal Patch’s book “Design-It-Yourself Clothes. Pattermakin Simplified”. That ‘s a very good book to get into patternmaking. That said, nothing beats the wellwritten pattern of an experienced seamstress. I find Jenny Gordy’s patterns (wiksten) to be wonderful to sew. She only sells limited numbers at a time though.

Slowly! But I’m enjoying it, which is the point. A few more evenings of working away on it, and it should be done!

I love the color you chose its such a neutral gorgeous brown that looks like it will go with alot of things! I also love cowls, i just finished up a cabled cowl, how long did you make yours? i always have a hard time deciding on when to stop or when to keep going when it comes to length lol
Thanks Viviana! I don’t really measure my cowls, I just wrap them around my neck from time to time and sort of just wing the length. Usually I make them go around my neck twice, but this one goes around 3 times because it isn’t very wide and because I wanted to use up the yarn.

What an amazing cowl! Where did you get the pattern? I would love to knit one of my own (probably in a nice grey, although the brown is gorgeous.) Well done on the whole outfit.

About how many stitches did you cast on to start it? I’m having some difficulty figuring out width.
