fall tova dress

September 14, 2011

I did it again…made a dress from one of Jenny‘s patterns that is.
This time it’s another Tova Dress.

The fabric is a linen that I picked up locally because it was on sale (and because I immediately thought it would be perfect for this pattern).

(the colors are more true in the first picture, the fabric is a dark navy blue). The linen makes this a great between the seasons dress.

I’ve been sewing a lot this year but I’m amazed how much of a difference practice makes. With every item I make my sewing is getting faster and neater at the same time. Practice really does make perfect (although I’m still a long long way from perfect!).

It’s not really that wrinkly as it appears in the photo. Or maybe it is and I’m in denial.
I see endless combination possibilities for this dress and look forward to wearing it a lot this fall. Oh, one alteration I made was lengthen it by about 2 or 3 inches, to make it wearable at work. I always have a hard time buying dresses, because the fashionable length is just that little bit shorter than I feel comfortable wearing (I’m officially a prude).
So good that there’s great fabric and patterns out there so I can make the things I like. Which reminds me, both the Tova dress and the Tank pattern are available for preorder at Wiksten right now! Go get sewing in my stead, as I’ll be busy moving in the next weeks and won’t come near my sewing machine too often I’m afraid :)

Nooooooo(!!) I missed the chance to buy the tova and tank patterns from Wiksten yet again. I’ll get it eventually! In the meantime, I’ll admire your tova. It’s lovely!

Thanks Sherrie! The cardi was a splurge, but I loved the color and it goes with practically everything so I wear it all the time :)

OHHHH!!! I really like this one!!!! The fabric is perfect for the fall!
*As my English level is not very good and it seems like all the time: I love it; lovely, nice… ;) but sometimes I feel that I don’t have vocabulary enough to express myself!
So again, I love the outfit, I think that we have a similar clothes taste!
I started my own tova on August, I will try to finish it this weekend!

Thanks Neus! I know, I sometimes feel my comments on other blogs are pretty meaningless…but we can’t always say deep things about stuff that we just like seeing ;) I’m glad you like it and thanks for taking the time to comment, that is totally enough :))
I’m looking forward to seeing your Tova!

it gets weirder and weirder – I am working on a tova dress in a dark linen (that’s the pic i posted last sunday). we are on the same brainwaves… and mine is too short because i did not have the foresight you did, and i cut it impulsively. so, i am going to wear it as a tunic with pants AND make a petticoat kind of thing to go underneath as a dress.

    i love yours.

Ha, we are Lauren! I made the Tova dress last year from a plaid flannel and found it was too short for me, so there you go. It’s a learning process ;) I’m looking forward to seeing yours, that petticoat idea sounds interesting!

I like your dress, it’s very nice and I like the fabric; I bought the same pattern, what size did you use the small or medium?
